The Essential Mix is a legendary weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 FM, widely considered the most prestigious slot in electronic dance music. Hosted by Pete Tong since its debut on 30 October 1993, the programme features a different DJ or producer each week delivering an uninterrupted two-hour set.

This weekly show was the main source for many people to discovering new dj’s, labels and music releases, back in the 90’s before the internet, you’d have to wait for the next addition of MixMag to get the previous track listings.
